As opposed to a sit-down unit, the stand-up forklift unit is completely different to operate. The way wherein you lift loads and your movements are really different. If you do not have correct training for using a stand-up unit, you can probably cause harm co-employees or to yourself. When operating a stand-up unit, you should follow the proper safety regulations. There are a few basic operating standards which must be met when operating a stand-up model.
To begin on a stand-up model forklift, it is important to get a good feel for the controls and the steering knob. Rather than a steering wheel, the steering is handled using the knob steering plate. Take note that this knob moves exceptionally fast, thus, you should be accustomed to moving it carefully in order to be sure not to over steer. The horn is situated on the control handle, as is the control for backwards, forwards and the fork movement. The floor pedal enables the machine to move.
If you are ready to start, turn the key to start the machinery. Be sure that your forks are retracted. When you are moving around the floor, the forks should be pointed slightly upwards. Do not drive with extended forks. If you are moving forward, move the control handle forward and in order to make the lift move forward, step on the pedal. If you are backing up, be certain to beep your horn to alert people around you. Look behind you before stepping on the pedal in order to make sure the way is clear and safe. Then, pull the control handle towards you while stepping on the pedal. Stay focused and alert and make sure that you are operating in a safe manner at all times.
When approaching a corner with the lift truck, turn the steering knob in the direction you are heading. Make sure to keep your foot on the accelerator and keep your hands on the control handle. When turning right, the steering knob would move in a clockwise direction during forward travel. If you are turning left, your steering knob will go in a counter-clockwise direction.
If you have just utilized sit down models, the stand-up versions could take some getting used to. With some training and taking some time to know the machinery, you could quickly and efficiently handle loads in little time.
