Lift Truck Parts in More Detail

There are many components which make up a forklift. The lift truck's major parts comprise the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Furthermore, a forklift has a range of attachments. All the components that make up a forklift are all important since they work together to make the functions of the equipment possible. The next paragraphs describe some of the forklift parts in detail.

The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the machine operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or injure the driver. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on some models.

The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck part made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move up and downwards while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails could either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.

Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the component that the forks and various other kinds of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.

Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that prevents a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.

Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments could be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common kind of attachment is forks. Furthermore, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and so forth. These various attachments are helpful for moving different kinds of loads.
